Installation Notes
Bonnet strut replacement is a straightforward DIY job — typically 15–20 minutes per side with no special tools required. Always have a second person support the bonnet during installation, or use a sturdy prop. Replace both struts as a pair — a new strut paired with a tired one creates uneven loading and shortens the new one's life.
Signs You Need New Struts
- Bonnet drops on its own, won't stay up
- Slow or weak lift when you release the catch
- Worse on cold mornings — gas pressure drops with temperature
- Visible oil residue on the chrome shaft, or hissing when compressed
- Bonnet needs to be propped with a stick or rod

Left strut when closing nicks the side of the engine bay. Only just but still touches when you open and close. I tried brackets both ways and still same issue. I'm not a fussy bloke so won't ask for a refund but just for future reference the strut doesn't clear properly.
